    InWEnt – Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung gemeinnützige GmbH ( Capacity Building International, Germany ) is an organization for international human resources development, advanced training and dialogue. It was established through a merger of Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. ( CDG ) and the German Foundation for International Development ( DSE ).

    it@inwent supports communities and business practices in the South and initiates and enhances knowledge networks. Since 2001, a network with hundreds of IT professionals has been initiated that now spans across three continents: it@ab in Africa and it@asia in South-East Asia. These two networks host more than 150 enterprises, universities and institutions all engaged in ICTs. In 2003/2004 more knowledge networks in sectors other than IT will follow. it@inwent promotes local ownership and provides a framework that is open to local cultural context and complexity. The Open Source technology approach within the projects enables the production and representation of contextual local knowledge. The knowledge building applications provided allow the southern stakeholders to become actors in all parts of the business chain. it@inwent provides training for operating the new services offered by these applications. In addition to training, service frameworks and products such as e-learning courses are developed and will be integrated incrementally into the business portfolio of the network partners in 2003/2004.

  2. The Malawi Polytechnic
    The Polytechnic is a constituent college of the University of Malawi. It focuses on Science & Technology, Engineering and Commerce. The mission of Polytechnic is:

    "…. To advance knowledge and to promote wisdom and understanding by engaging in teaching, research and by making provision for the dissemination, promotion and preservation of learning; by engaging in such University education and research as is responsive to the needs of Malawi and Africa and by offering, within limits of its resources, to persons suitably qualified academically and who, in the opinion of the Council, are able and offered by the University, an education of high university standard in Science & Technology, Engineering, and Commerce."

    In December 2002 twenty senior managers of it@ab institutions met in Cape Town, South Africa, in order to define the strategy of the network and to discuss marketing and business issues. The „it@ab Vision & Mission“ is the condensed statement resulting from a very lively and intense debate at this meeting.

    The it@ab vision
    • Global and regional business opportunities exist for enterprises in SADC through the innovative application of ICTs and networking;
    • A supportive environment for ICT-related business activities and ICTs are integrated into the social and economic development;
    • ICTs are used as business tools and ethical business standards are applied in the digital economy

    On the basis of this Vision it@ab will provide state of the art know-how in e-commerce and e-business in the whole SADC region and thus, open e-business opportunities to Small and Medium sized enterprises, to Institutions and to governmental bodies. it@ab promotes local business development as well as regional business cooperation. On an international level it@ab offers business contacts and cooperation opportunities with companies and institutions in South East Asia and in Europe.

    Additional focus of it@ab lies on the development of the young generation. it@ab provides special IT training programmes for young IT-specialists on local, regional and international level
